Of course, once Soldiers for Christ and the Anarchist Cooperative got word that the Number Crunchers were planning to publish their results in virtual journals all over the world, the scientists were arrested immediately.  Their offices were swept clean like the footprints of untouchables.  Rumor had it that some people were taken to South America and Europe to be tortured in simulated Spanish Inquisitions.  Others were deemed historically sensitive and sentenced to a hundred years of cryogenic prison.  In one way or another, the Number Crunchers were disposed of just like monocrystalline solar panels, Beta tapes, Shuffles, MP3 players, fossil fuels, arable land, ocean fisheries, and freeware.  Human life became a true sob story.
