Enrollment at Hong Kong University, instead of plummeting, actually skyrocketed.  Some people seemed to find comfort in knowledge, even in the face of Armageddon.  Many adults quit their jobs and entered mid-career Masters programs, others decided to enroll in Bachelors program all over again, just to do something.  To me, it didn’t make sense:  we were all going to die soon.  What was the point?  I guess everything looked bleak if you examined it long enough, and for some of us, random knowledge and self-help could be just as good-looking as Jesus, Dark Rooms or Capsizing in the Indian Ocean.
