Bad Boy's Trajectory (SFC2)
Sometimes for consolation, sometimes for surrender, sometimes to embrace depression, sometimes to accept reality (including the memorialization and the performativity of it), and other times just to watch their own mortality like a music video, billions of viewers all over the world watched SFC2 obsessively on the intranet/supranet, on their virtual EMOS screens, on commercialized rapid shuttles, and on public commons projectors. People became transfixed by this video of Bad Boy plummeting to earth, which the Soldiers For Christ created and then looped 24 hours a day on SFC2, thereby replacing Fox News as the network of fear, (white) victimization, and cortisol. As witnesses to their own calculated deaths, spectatorship was an admission of powerlessness, an act of collective defiance, and an extreme exercise of free will. Viewers should be milking the last seconds of their life and instead they were watching the ultimate reality TV (a genre, which basically died in the 2020's). Choosing to watch the apocalypse has specific psychological similarities with reality TV, namely that you can't bear to watch and don't want to, but you also can't afford to look away either because what you're watching is hyper-real, nothing but a performative, revised, edited version of reality that is somehow still truthful (for the simple reason that reality itself is performed, revised, and edited both in our remembering and in our retelling of it). This juxtaposition of performance, reality TV, and human mortality became one of the common existential conundrums of the intra- and post-apocalyptic eras: namely, can human beings really claim they're going to perish if there will be no spectators, no witnesses, and no survivors to (re-)tell their story? If all earthlings die at once, is that really death? Is this life really life if all life cycles become predetermined? How do humans assert their free will in lieu of the Asteroid-cum-Meteorite Apocalypse? Does the Asteroid Apocalypse prove the infallibility of science or the irrelevance of organized religion? And are we embracing reality (whatever that is, however it's understood and then retold millions of years later) by looking right into the eyes of our executioner or are we embracing reality by looking away and controlling the spectrum and the resolution of our visual field until the music ends abruptly?
